Description
Soviet automatic Slava wrist watch with day & date, 27 jewels
MADE IN USSR!
Bold, highly legible Slava with a silver sunburst dial, big black Arabic numerals, black-filled baton hands, a bright red seconds hand and a framed day-date window at 3 o’clock with the weekday in Russian.
Lovely vintage watch made by 2nd Moscow Watch factory, USSR.
The dial is signed in Russian – «Слава», «26 камней» (26 jewels), «Сделано в СССР» (Made in USSR) – the version made for the home market, and the day disc reads in Russian too. The big cushion-shaped chrome-plated case has brushed bezel facets and polished flanks, with a steel snap-on case back carrying the serial number 449366. The dial shows age spotting and small marks, and the chrome plating is worn through to the base metal in places on the underside and rear edges of the case – please see the photos.
The watch is self-winding and does not need batteries to operate – it winds itself as you wear it.
Original Soviet Slava watch has mechanical lever movement with automatic winding. Caliber 2427 is Slava’s self-winding day-date caliber – the rotor, stamped «27 JEWELS», is visible in the movement photos – and shows the weekday and the date side by side. Please note the dial reads 26 jewels while the automatic movement fitted is the 27-jewel 2427. The small pusher on the case flank beside the crown is the quick-set corrector for the calendar.

About the watch factory

Slava (Russian: Cлава, meaning “Glory”) watches were classic “civil” Russian watches commonly referred to as “Slava Lava!”.
The Slava factory (known originally as the Second Moscow Watch Factory) was the second non-military watch maker established in the Soviet Union, in 1924.
The watches of this brand have always been meant for civilian consumption, without military or aerospace pretensions. As of today the factory no longer produces.
