Description
Soviet mechanical Slava wrist watch with day & date, 26 jewels
MADE IN USSR!
Handsome square Slava – the model collectors call the “fridge” for its boxy, rounded case – with a deep black dial framed by a ring of large white Roman numerals, lumed baton hands, and an unusual vertical day-date window at 6 o’clock – the weekday in red and black above the date.
Lovely vintage watch made by 2nd Moscow Watch factory, USSR.
The dial is signed in Russian – «Слава», «26 камней» (26 jewels), «Сделано в СССР» (Made in USSR) – the version made for the home market, and the day disc reads in Russian too. The cushion-shaped chrome-plated case has a steel snap-on case back carrying the serial number 132551. The front of the case presents well; the underside around the case back shows plating loss with rust and pitting, and there are small spots of corrosion at the lug ends – please see the photos.
The watch is mechanical and does not need batteries to operate.
Original Soviet Slava watch has mechanical lever movement and manual winding. Caliber 2428 runs on two mainspring barrels – a Slava speciality – and shows the weekday and the date side by side. The small pusher at 2 o’clock advances the date quickly.

About the watch factory

Slava (Russian: Cлава, meaning “Glory”) watches were classic “civil” Russian watches commonly referred to as “Slava Lava!”.
The Slava factory (known originally as the Second Moscow Watch Factory) was the second non-military watch maker established in the Soviet Union, in 1924.
The watches of this brand have always been meant for civilian consumption, without military or aerospace pretensions. As of today the factory no longer produces.
