Vintage Soviet Molnija table clock – the same model that appears in HBO’s mini-series “Chernobyl”

MADE IN USSR!

Faceted amber-orange acrylic, a ribbed black ring with twelve spokes and a gold textured dial signed «Молния» in flowing script: this is the Molnija table clock seen on screen in HBO’s 2019 mini-series Chernobyl. A still from the series appears further down the page for comparison.

Made by the Chelyabinsk Watch Factory “Molnija” in the USSR. The back is stamped ГОСТ 3309-75 КЛАСС I. That is the Soviet standard for balance-wheel table and wall clocks, superseded by a new edition in 1986, so this clock was made between the mid-1970s and the mid-1980s.

Fully mechanical, no batteries: one full wind keeps it running for about 7 days. It is wound and set from the back.

This example stands on its black V-shaped foot. The acrylic is bright and clear, with only light surface marks from age.
