Soviet mechanical Wostok (Vostok) watch – 22 jewels
MADE IN USSR!
Manufactured on Chistopolsky Watch Factory “Vostok”, USSR.
The company was appointed an official supplier of watches for the Defence Department of the Soviet Union in 1965. This year also marks the creation of the well known Komandirskie (“Commander’s”) watch.
This is the less common domestic version, in the case variant with wider lugs.
Precision, 22 jewels. Caliber 2809 is a precision-class movement with a centre seconds hand, developed at the Chistopol factory from the legendary Swiss Zenith 135, with 22 jewels in place of the original 17.
The silver sunburst dial carries the Vostok logo in Cyrillic with “Прецизионные” (Precision), “22 камня” (22 jewels) and “Сделано в СССР” (Made in USSR), with printed Arabic 12 and 6, slim black baton markers (doubled at 3 and 9), dark blued hands and a red arrow-tipped centre seconds hand. The steel case back is engraved “Противоударные” (shock-resistant) and “Пыле-влагонепроницаемые” (dust- and moisture-proof) with the calibre number 2809.
The watch is mechanical and does not need batteries to operate.
Original Soviet “Vostok” has mechanical lever movement and manual winding.

Condition: the chrome-plated case shows light scratches and normal signs of use. The dial has an honest, even patina with darker toning and spotting along the outer edge, most visible on the right-hand side and toward 6 o’clock; the printing, markers and hands are clean and fully legible. The gilt movement is clean and bright.
This watch has recently been serviced by a professional watchmaker and keeps good time.
Comes complete with a new Nagata leather strap.

Soviet Vostok 22 jewel movement is based on Swiss Zenith Calibre 135.

The Zenith Calibre 135 is a legendary, award-winning manual-winding watch movement produced from 1949 to 1962, renowned for its exceptional precision, particularly in observatory chronometer competitions. It is considered one of the most significant and successful chronometer movements in watchmaking history.
Design Features:
- An extra-large balance wheel (14mm diameter) with a Breguet overcoil spring to enhance inertia and rate stability.
- A large mainspring barrel to deliver consistent power to the regulator.
- A unique movement architecture with an off-center minute wheel to make space for the large balance wheel.
- Early versions featured a swan-neck regulator, while later, modern reinterpretations incorporate double-arrow regulator arms for fine-tuning.
About the watch factory

Watch Factory “Vostok” – began as the “2nd State Watch Factory” was evacuated during World War 2 to Chistopol in 1941.
In 1943 began producing Kirovskie watch – first Soviet man’s wrist watch earlier made on 1st Moscow Watch Factory. From 1949 famous “Pobeda” watches were made here.
From 1965 “Commander’s” watch Vostok were made on the factory.
Since 1965 factory was official supplier of Ministry of Defence, all watches produced were branded as “Vostok”
