Vintage Soviet powder compact with the Leningrad Admiralty spire on the lid
A charming gift for fans of Soviet design!
About This Powder Compact
A Soviet-era square powder compact in silver-tone metal, made as a Leningrad souvenir. It is a solid, heavy piece at 108 g (0.24 lb). The lid carries the city’s best-known emblem: the gilded spire of the Admiralty topped by its little sailing-ship weathervane, which has been the symbol of St Petersburg since the 18th century. Beside it, the name «Ленинград» (Leningrad) is written in flowing script. Both are stamped into the lid and filled in black.
Inside, a hinged inner lid with a fine engine-turned pattern of concentric squares covers the powder well. The well has a fabric sifter screen, and the compact still has its round yellow powder puff with a pink ribbon tab. A push-button catch at the front keeps it closed.
