Description
Soviet automatic Slava wrist watch with day & date, 27 jewels
MADE IN USSR!
Warm, rich Slava with a two-tone dial – a deep chocolate-brown centre framed by a copper-coloured, engine-turned outer ring – gold-tone baton markers and hands, and a day-date window at 3 o’clock with the weekday in Russian.
Lovely vintage watch made by 2nd Moscow Watch factory, USSR.
The dial is signed in Russian – «Слава», «Автоподзавод» (automatic), «27 камней» (27 jewels), «Сделано в СССР» (Made in USSR) – the version made for the home market. The chrome-plated cushion case has a broad, polished profile, with a steel snap-on case back carrying the serial number 100951. The case shows light signs of use consistent with its age – please see the photos.
The watch is self-winding and does not need batteries to operate – it winds itself as you wear it.
Original Soviet Slava watch has mechanical lever movement with automatic winding. Caliber 2427 is Slava’s self-winding day-date caliber – the rotor, stamped 2427, is visible in the movement photos – and shows the weekday and the date side by side. The small pusher at 2 o’clock is the quick-set corrector for the calendar.

About the watch factory

Slava (Russian: Cлава, meaning “Glory”) watches were classic “civil” Russian watches commonly referred to as “Slava Lava!”.
The Slava factory (known originally as the Second Moscow Watch Factory) was the second non-military watch maker established in the Soviet Union, in 1924.
The watches of this brand have always been meant for civilian consumption, without military or aerospace pretensions. As of today the factory no longer produces.
