Vintage Soviet domino set in its turquoise space-age box
A gift for board-game and space fans!
About This Set
A Soviet-era domino set («Домино») in a turquoise plastic box, marked «г. Прилуки» (the town of Pryluky, Chernihiv region, Ukraine) on the lid. The lid design is pure space race: the word «Домино» in hand-drawn letters inside an orbit loop, with a rocket streaking along the orbit and stars scattered in the corners.
The theme carries on to the tiles themselves. The back of every tile is moulded with two Sputnik satellites, antennas trailing, either side of a factory monogram. The faces are a standard double-six set with black pips and a moulded centre line, and the set is complete: all 28 tiles are present.
What Is in the Set
- Turquoise plastic box: a two-part box with a press-fit lid and a small tab on the front. The lid carries the moulded «Домино» / «г. Прилуки» design with a rocket and stars.
- 28 domino tiles (complete double-six set): cream plastic tiles with black pips, Sputnik-and-monogram pattern moulded on the back.
Condition Report
Used vintage condition. Several tiles have yellowish staining on the faces, and some have old purple ink marks along the edges. The box has scuffs and handling marks, and a small crack in the lid rim beside the front tab. The lid still closes and holds.
