The Seven Star V2 is the second generation of Citizen’s Seven Star line. From 1969 the original 52-family movements were replaced by the 72 and 77 calibre families, and the “V2” on the dial marks that change — it is a version number, not an abbreviation. The new calibres ran at 21,600 bph against the 18,000 bph of the movements they replaced, which is where the smoother sweep of the seconds hand comes from. Seven Star sat in Citizen’s mid-range, opposite the Seiko 61xx and 70xx automatics, and the early-1970s examples are the ones known for gradient dials in strong colours.

This Seven Star V2 carries an emerald-green gradient (ombré) dial that runs from a near-black forest green at the rim to a bright green at the centre. The applied indices are faceted twin batons, and the day and date share a single window at 3 o’clock. The dial is signed SEVEN STAR / V2 / 22 JEWELS below the centre, with the dial code JAPAN-7700-771530-K printed at 6 o’clock.

The case is cushion-shaped stainless steel, brushed across the top surfaces and polished around the bezel, with the crown standing proud of the flank a little below the 3 o’clock axis. Inside is Citizen’s automatic calibre 7700 — 22 jewels, 21,600 bph — with the quick-set Citizen used across this family: held 12 up, a press of the crown advances the date; held 12 down, the same press advances the day.
