Description
Vostok Komandirskie (“Commander’s”) watch — 17 jewels
MADE IN USSR!
Manufactured at the Chistopol Watch Factory “Vostok”, USSR.
Командирские (Komandirskie) means “Commander’s”. The watch was built to a Soviet Ministry of Defence specification rather than sold as an ordinary civilian model.
“Антимагнитные” under the logo reads “Antimagnetic”. This dial carries no “Заказ МО СССР” (Ordered by the Ministry of Defence) marking: it is the Komandirskie that was sold to the general public, not the version issued through military stores.
About the Komandirskie Line
The Chistopol Watch Factory was appointed official supplier to the USSR Ministry of Defence in 1965, and the Komandirskie was created that same year. The experience gained developing the army watch led directly to the Amphibia in 1967 — the stainless-steel diver rated to 200 metres (20 atm).
The submarine dial is one of the classic Komandirskie designs, fitted to the chrome-plated round Komandirskie case with a rotating bezel and the manual-wind calibre 2409.
About This Watch
The white dial has large black Arabic numerals, a minute track with five-minute figures, round lume dots at the hours, a red star at 12 and a black submarine above the 6. The script “Командирские” logo sits above centre with “Антимагнитные” below it and the Vostok “В” emblem at the bottom. The hour and minute hands are black arrows with lume inserts, and the central seconds hand is red with a lume dot. The chrome-plated round Komandirskie case carries a bezel with red markings on the left half and black on the right. The steel case back, held by a retaining ring, is a Vostok Amphibia part: it is marked “Амфибия”, “Водонепроницаемые 200 м” (water resistant 200 m) and “Противоударные” (shock-resistant). The case itself is a Komandirskie, not an Amphibia, so the 200 m marking on the back is not a rating for this watch. The back carries no serial number, and nothing on the watch dates it, so we do not give a year. Inside is a Vostok calibre 2409: manual wind, central seconds, no date. We identified it by its bridge layout; the calibre stamp is hidden under the balance cock in the photos.

Condition Report
The dial has aged to a warm off-white, with light spotting in places, mostly around the top. The lume dots and hand inserts have yellowed evenly, and the dot at 7 is darker than the rest. The printing is complete. The chrome plating shows wear on the lug tips and the case sides, and there is a small green mark on the lower right lug. The bezel has light scratches. The case back ring and the lug undersides show plating loss and pitting, which is hidden on the wrist.

Why Collectors Want This Watch Today
This is one of the best-known Soviet watch designs, and plenty were made, so the appeal is the watch rather than scarcity. The submarine dial with its red star is among the most recognisable Komandirskie faces. The 2409 is a simple, robust manual-wind movement that any watchmaker can service. It is an honest, wearable piece of Cold War design at a sensible price, and the bezel can be swapped for the optional black diver’s bezel if you want a more military look.
