Description
Soviet mechanical Slava wrist watch with day & date, 26 jewels
MADE IN USSR!
Striking Slava with a black dial overprinted with a fine white grid – a crosshair through the centre and a lattice of lines across the right and lower half – white Arabic numerals and a day-date window at 3 o’clock.
Lovely vintage watch made by 2nd Moscow Watch factory, USSR.
The dial is signed in English – “SLAVA”, “26 JEWELS”, “MADE IN USSR” – the version made for export. The chrome-plated case has a faceted, octagonal profile, with a steel case back carrying the serial number 176593. The plating shows honest wear, with the base metal showing through along the case edges and lug tips – please see the photos.
The watch is mechanical and does not need batteries to operate.
Original Soviet Slava watch has mechanical lever movement and manual winding. Caliber 2428 runs on two mainspring barrels – a Slava speciality – and shows the weekday and the date side by side. The small pusher at 2 o’clock advances the date quickly.

About the watch factory

Slava (Russian: Cлава, meaning “Glory”) watches were classic “civil” Russian watches commonly referred to as “Slava Lava!”.
The Slava factory (known originally as the Second Moscow Watch Factory) was the second non-military watch maker established in the Soviet Union, in 1924.
The watches of this brand have always been meant for civilian consumption, without military or aerospace pretensions. As of today the factory no longer produces.
