Description
Poljot quartz watch – gold-tone, with the coat of arms of the Kyiv Oblast
MADE IN 🇺🇦 UKRAINE!
A presentation watch from the Kyiv Oblast Council (Київська обласна рада), the elected council of the Kyiv region. The dial reads “Від Київської обласної ради” (“From the Kyiv Oblast Council”) under the region’s coat of arms printed in full colour – St George on a white horse in a blue shield, under a city-wall crown and framed by wheat ears and oak leaves – and is signed “UKRAINE” at 6 o’clock.
The Kyiv region has used this coat of arms since 1999, so the watch was made no earlier than that. It carries no date of its own and came without a box or passport, so we do not give a year. In 2023 the Kyiv regional administration proposed replacing the emblem because of its resemblance to the arms of Moscow.
The movement is stamped S. Epson Corp., Japan, Y121E – a Seiko Epson quartz calibre, the same one found in the Kyiv-assembled Poljot presentation watches of the 2000s. It runs on a single 377 battery.

Why collectors want it
It is a piece of Ukrainian regional history on the wrist: an official gift from the Kyiv Oblast Council, carrying an emblem the region has since moved to replace. It is a modest quartz watch, not a rare one – the appeal is the dial and the story behind it.

About the Poljot name
Poljot is the brand of the First Moscow Watch Factory, which began making watches in 1930 and adopted the Poljot name in 1964. In 1961 Yuri Gagarin flew into space wearing a watch from the First Moscow Watch Factory.
This particular watch is a different story: it is a quartz watch with a Japanese Seiko Epson movement, made in independent Ukraine as a presentation piece rather than by the Moscow factory.
