Description
Poljot quartz watch – gold-plated, with a presidential inscription
MADE IN 🇺🇦 UKRAINE!
A commemorative Victory Day watch. The dial reads “Від Адміністрації Президента України” (“From the Administration of the President of Ukraine”) under a gold-and-red Order of the Patriotic War star, and the case back is engraved “З Святом Перемоги!” (“Happy Victory Day!”) and “З повагою та вдячністю, Президент України Л. Кучма” (“With respect and gratitude, President of Ukraine L. Kuchma”).
Leonid Kuchma was President of Ukraine from 1994 to January 2005, so a watch dated May 2004 comes from his final year in office. We cannot say how many of these were made or to whom they were handed out – the watch itself only tells us what is engraved on it.
The passport names the Kyiv watch company “ЧАС ЛТД” as the assembler and gives the assembly date as 2 May 2004 – a week before Victory Day (9 May). It also states a Miyota movement, but the movement in this watch is stamped S. Epson Corp., Japan, Y121E – a Seiko Epson quartz calibre. The passport lists the model as a ladies’ watch (“жіночий”).
The watch has a quartz movement and runs on a single 377 battery.

Why collectors want it
It is a small piece of Ukrainian state history on the wrist: an official Victory Day greeting carrying the name of a sitting president, still in its box with its passport. It is a modest quartz watch, not a rare one – the appeal is the inscription and the story around it.

About the Poljot name
Poljot is the brand of the First Moscow Watch Factory, which began making watches in 1930 and adopted the Poljot name in 1964. In 1961 Yuri Gagarin flew into space wearing a watch from the First Moscow Watch Factory.
This particular watch is a different story: it is a quartz watch assembled in Kyiv in 2004, and its passport names the Kyiv company “ЧАС ЛТД” as the assembler rather than the Moscow factory.
