Description
Vostok Komandirskie (“Commander’s”) watch — 17 jewels
MADE IN USSR!
Manufactured at the Chistopol Watch Factory “Vostok”, USSR.
Командирские (Komandirskie) means “Commander’s”. The watch was built to a Soviet Ministry of Defence specification rather than sold as an ordinary civilian model.
The dial is printed “Капитан подводной лодки” — “Submarine Captain”. It carries no “Заказ МО СССР” (Ordered by the Ministry of Defence) marking: this is the civilian Komandirskie, sold to the general public rather than through military stores.
About the Komandirskie Line
The Chistopol Watch Factory was appointed official supplier to the USSR Ministry of Defence in 1965, and the Komandirskie was created that same year. The experience gained developing the army watch led directly to the Amphibia in 1967 — the stainless-steel diver rated to 200 metres (20 atm).
The “Submarine Captain” dial is one of the classic Komandirskie designs. This one is fitted to the gold-tone Komandirskie case with a rotating bezel and the manual-wind calibre 2414A with date.
About This Watch
The black dial has a blue-grey central disc showing a submarine with a red star on its conning tower, gulls overhead and an anchor below, with the script “Капитан подводной лодки” (Submarine Captain) across the middle. Around it sit large luminous Arabic numerals, a minute track, round lume dots at the hours, a date window at 3 and “MADE IN USSR” at the bottom. The hour and minute hands are gold-tone with lume inserts, and the central seconds hand is red. The gold-tone Komandirskie case carries a polished bezel with red markings on the left half and black on the right. The steel case back, held by a retaining ring, is marked “Водонепроницаемые” (water resistant). Nothing on the watch gives a production year; “MADE IN USSR” on the dial places it before the end of the Soviet Union in 1991. Inside is a Vostok calibre 2414A: 17 jewels, manual wind, central seconds and date. We identified it by its date function and bridge layout; no calibre stamp is visible in the photos.

Why Collectors Want This Watch Today
The Komandirskie is one of the best-known Soviet watch designs, and plenty were made, so the appeal is the watch rather than scarcity. The “Submarine Captain” dial, with its red-starred submarine and anchor, is among the most recognisable Komandirskie faces, and the gold-tone case with the red-and-black bezel gives it a dressier look than the steel versions. The 2414A is a simple, robust manual-wind movement with date that any watchmaker can service. This one is in excellent condition, and the bezel can be swapped for the optional black diver’s bezel if you want a more military look.
