Description
Soviet mechanical Slava wrist watch with day & date, 26 jewels
MADE IN USSR!
Handsome cushion-case Slava with a burgundy sunburst dial – glowing wine-red at the centre, shading to near-black at the edges – gold baton markers with black inlays, lumed gold baton hands, a gold seconds hand and a day-date window at 3 o’clock with the weekday in red Russian letters.
Lovely vintage watch made by 2nd Moscow Watch factory, USSR.
The dial is signed in Russian – «Слава» and «26 камней» (26 jewels) – the version made for the home market, and the day disc reads in Russian as well («ВСК» = Sunday). The cushion case is gold-plated and stamped «Au10» between the lugs (a 10-micron gold layer); the steel snap-on case back carries the State Quality Mark, the serial number 348201 and a presentation engraving dated December 1981 (see below). The plating shows light wear consistent with its age, with small marks on the case and at the lug tips, and the steel back has fine surface scratches – please see the photos.
The watch is mechanical and does not need batteries to operate.
Original Soviet Slava watch has mechanical lever movement and manual winding. Caliber 2428 runs on two mainspring barrels – a Slava speciality – and shows the weekday and the date side by side. The small pusher at 2 o’clock advances the date quickly.

About the watch factory

Slava (Russian: Cлава, meaning “Glory”) watches were classic “civil” Russian watches commonly referred to as “Slava Lava!”.
The Slava factory (known originally as the Second Moscow Watch Factory) was the second non-military watch maker established in the Soviet Union, in 1924.
The watches of this brand have always been meant for civilian consumption, without military or aerospace pretensions. As of today the factory no longer produces.
