Soviet Raketa “Medicine” quartz watch with pulse scale
MADE IN USSR!
Raketa (Ракета, meaning “Rocket”) doctor’s watch with a textured cream dial printed in blue. Two pulse scales run around the dial, each labelled «ЧАСТОТА ПУЛЬСА ПО 15 УДАРАМ» (“pulse rate over 15 beats”): one starts at 12 o’clock, the other at 6, and both read from 35 to 160 beats per minute. A blue snake-and-bowl medical emblem sits below the centre. Black hands, a black “12” numeral and polished baton markers complete the dial, which is signed «РАКЕТА / КВАРЦ» and marked «СДЕЛАНО В СССР» (Made in USSR).
The round chrome-plated case has a snap-on steel case back stamped with the Soviet State Quality Mark and the number 385990.
Manufactured at the Petrodvorets Watch Factory, USSR. The State Quality Mark (Знак качества) was introduced in 1967. The quartz movement and the styling of the dial place this watch around the 1980s.
The watch has a quartz movement and runs on a single battery. Caliber 2356 (stamped on the bridge, with “SU”) is the Soviet quartz movement with centre seconds.

This watch has recently been serviced by a professional watchmaker and keeps good time.
CONDITION: the dial and hands are clean. The case shows light wear and small pits on the flanks, and there is a spot of corrosion on the case at the case-back opening notch. The case back has scratches from use.
Comes complete with a new Nagata leather strap.

About the watch factory

The Petrodvorets Watch Factory «Raketa» was founded by Peter the Great in 1721. Factory was producing wide range of items, including jewels for watches since 1930.
Factory was devastated during World War 2, restored in 1949 and was making “Pobeda”(Victory) and “Zvezda” watches. In 1954 renamed into Petrodvorets Watch Factory.
Since 1962 “Raketa” watches are produced which became the trade mark of the factory.
The Petrodvorets Watch Factory is one of the rare watch factories in the world that fully manufactures its own movements from A to Z, including hairspring and escapement.
Other band names produced on the factory include Baltika, Leningrad, Mayak, Neva, Pobeda, Raketa, Rossiya, Svet, Start.
