Description

Soviet mechanical Raketa Goroda (Cities) world time watch with day / date calendar

MADE IN USSR!

Raketa (Ракета, meaning “Rocket”) Goroda (Города, “Cities”) world time watch with a blue dial: gold-tone applied double-bar hour markers, silver-tone hands with lume strips and a centre seconds hand. The outer track of the dial carries a 24-hour scale, and the black bezel ring around it is printed with the names of 24 world cities in Russian, from Москва (Moscow), Лондон (London) and Нью-Йорк (New York) to Владивосток (Vladivostok) and Магадан (Magadan). The day and date sit in a framed window at 3 o’clock, with the day disc in Russian (ВСК = Sunday). The dial is signed in script “Raketa” and carries the Soviet State Quality Mark above “СДЕЛАНО В СССР” (Made in USSR).

The large round chrome-plated case has a gold-tone edge to the bezel and a plain snap-on case back.

Manufactured at the Petrodvorets Watch Factory, USSR. The State Quality Mark (Знак качества) was only introduced in 1967; the Russian-language day disc and the styling of the dial and case place this watch around the 1980s.

The watch is mechanical and does not need batteries to operate.

Original Soviet Raketa watch has mechanical lever movement and manual winding. Caliber 2628.H (stamped on the bridge) is the Petrodvorets 19-jewel movement with centre seconds and a day / date calendar.

Comes complete with vintage steel bracelet.

About the watch factory

The Petrodvorets Watch Factory «Raketa» was founded by Peter the Great in 1721. Factory was producing wide range of items, including jewels for watches since 1930.
Factory was devastated during World War 2, restored in 1949 and was making “Pobeda”(Victory) and “Zvezda” watches. In 1954 renamed into Petrodvorets Watch Factory.
Since 1962 “Raketa” watches are produced which became the trade mark of the factory.

The Petrodvorets Watch Factory is one of the rare watch factories in the world that fully manufactures its own movements from A to Z, including hairspring and escapement.

Other band names produced on the factory include Baltika, Leningrad, Mayak, Neva, Pobeda, Raketa, Rossiya, Svet, Start.
