Vintage Soviet Mayak watch
MADE IN USSR!
The watch is mechanical and does not need batteries to operate.
Original Soviet “Mayak” with mechanical lever movement and manual winding.
Made by the 1st Moscow Watch Factory (1MChZ) — its diamond «1 МЧЗ» logo is stamped on the movement plate, and as usual for a 1MChZ Mayak the dial carries no factory logo. Silver-white grained dial with a full set of Arabic numerals, dot markers and an inner minute track, gold-tone hands with luminous inserts and a small seconds subdial at 6. The round chrome-plated case has long, slender lugs and a steel case back reading «Баланс амортизированный — пылевлагонепроницаемые» — shock-protected balance, dust- and moisture-proof. Inside is the 16-jewel manual-wind 2603 movement, a shockproofed version of the Pobeda caliber.

About Mayak brand
Mayak / Маяк
The Mayak brand (Маяк, meaning “lighthouse”) was produced primarily by Petrodvorets Watch Factory, but also by First Moscow Watch Factory(1MchZ or 1MWF). It’s generally possible to tell which factory manufactured a given Mayak, as Petrodvorets usually put their company logo on the dial, while 1MChZ omitted this feature. All watches relied on the caliber 2603 movement, a shockproofed version of the ubiquitous Pobeda caliber.
1st Moscow Watch Factory (renamed to Poljot after 1964) – the biggest and oldest of Soviet watch factories.
Russian watches have a rich and interesting history dating back over 80 years with the creation of the First Moscow Watch Factory, which today manufactures Poljot watches.
A highlight of Russia’s watch history came in 1961 when cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin took the first ever flight into space with a watch from the First Moscow Watch Factory.
The Mayak brand was retired around 1962, when the vast majority of Petrodvorets Watch Factory brands were consolidated under a single trademark: Raketa.
Similar watches continued to be produced thereafter, but only under the Raketa name.
