Description
Vintage Soviet aluminium soap box with an enamelled Kolobok fairy-tale lid
A charming gift for fans of Soviet design!
About This Soap Box
A Soviet-era travel soap box in gold-tone aluminium, the kind every Soviet family packed for the bathhouse, the dacha or a trip to the seaside. It is made in two parts: a rounded tray and a slip-on lid of the same shape.
The lid shows a scene from «Колобок» (Kolobok), the best-known Russian and Ukrainian folk tale for small children. In a raised frame, the old woman in her red headscarf and apron holds the freshly baked, smiling Kolobok bun over the windowsill, with steam curling up from it. The figures are picked out in red, white, blue and yellow enamel. Beside the frame is a raised swirling flourish.
