Description
Digital Vintage Watch Electronika 5
MADE IN BELARUS!
This is a vintage LCD digital watch Elektronika 5 (Электроника 5) in the black, nearly weightless plastic case.
The dial is marked «СДЕЛАНО В БЕЛАРУСИ» (Made in Belarus) rather than «Сделано в СССР», so this example was made after 1991 in independent Belarus, most likely in the 1990s. Minsk was home to the Integral works, one of the main Elektronika watch makers, and production of the familiar Soviet designs simply carried on there after the break-up of the USSR.
Black dial with a gold-printed «ЭЛЕКТРОНИКА 5» signature and a gold-to-silver stripe. The display shows hours, minutes and seconds plus the month and date, as labelled on the dial: ЧАС (hour), МИН / СЕК (minutes / seconds), МЕСЯЦ (month), ЧИСЛО (date). The pushers work the backlight (СВЕТ), the mode (РЕЖИМ) and the setting (КОРРЕКЦИЯ). Quartz, battery powered. The black plastic case back is moulded with the ЭЛЕКТРОНИКА name.
Condition: pre-owned, in good working condition. The display is clear and complete and the dial print is crisp. The plastic case and crystal show light scuffs and fine scratches from use, and the case back has fine scratches. The strap is worn, with scuffing and some fraying at the edges.
Case height (lug to lug) – 40mm
Case width – 35mm
Case thickness – 9.5mm
This watch has recently been serviced by a professional watchmaker and keeps good time.
Comes complete with vintage black strap.

About Elektronika brand
Elektronika / Электроника
Electronika or Elektronika? Both spellings mean the same brand. The Soviet name is Электроника, and English-language sources transliterate it as either “Electronika” or “Elektronika”. This watch is the same one under either name.
Elektronika (Электроника) is the brand name used for many different electronic products built by factories belonging to the Soviet Ministry of Electronic Industry. These included computer systems, calculators, electronic watches, tape recorders, video recorders, portable games, and radios. Some products were exported under various names, including Sekonda and Elorg, and some devices were direct copies of foreign technology.
The watch brand Elektronika was the Soviet response to the advent of quartz technology in the West. The first Elektronika quartz watches appeared in the early 1970s and were based on technology from Western brands such as Pulsar. Early models had very few functions, but as the technology developed, more advanced functions were developed (e.g. chronograph and calendar complications). At least four factories were responsible for the production of Elektronika watches, including Pulsar (Moscow), Angstrem (Zelenograd), Integral (Minsk), and Soyuz (Novosibirsk). The primary factory, Integral Joint Stock Company, continues to make a variety of consumer electronics today.
