Description

Soviet Slava “Sport” quartz watch with pulsometer scale – New Old Stock, with box & passport
MADE IN USSR!

An unworn Slava “Sport” from September 1991, still with the factory tag tied to its spring bar. Around the dial runs a pulsometer – a heart-rate scale. Count 30 heartbeats and the seconds hand points straight to your pulse in beats per minute. No arithmetic, no stopwatch.

This is the export version of the dial, printed in English: a black centre inside a yellow-gold chapter ring, with the pulse scale tracked in yellow dots. The scale is marked “30 BEAT COUNT” and reads from 130 at 3 o’clock down to 40 near 9; an “ATTENTION” band between 9 and 12 marks anything slower than 40. A running-man emblem sits above 6, and the dial is signed “SLAVA QUARTZ” and “MADE IN USSR”.

Lovely vintage watch made by the 2nd Moscow Watch Factory, USSR.

The original passport is for the Slava 3056A and carries the factory release date of 25 September 1991 – one of the last years of the Soviet Union. Please note: the watch number handwritten in the passport is 887, while the case back is stamped 890, so the passport is from the same model and period but not issued for this exact watch. It even explains the pulse scale itself: count 30 pulse beats from the moment the seconds hand passes 12. According to the passport the case is chrome-plated with a stainless steel case back.

The watch is quartz and runs on a single button-cell battery. The movement is the Slava calibre 3056A, an analogue quartz movement with a stepping motor and a 32,768 Hz quartz resonator, made by the 2nd Moscow Watch Factory. It shows hours, minutes and centre seconds.

HOW TO TAKE YOUR PULSE WITH THIS WATCH

1. Find your pulse at the wrist or neck and wait for the seconds hand to reach 12.

2. Start counting heartbeats as the hand passes 12.

3. On the 30th beat, read the number under the seconds hand – that is your heart rate in beats per minute.

Example: if the 30th beat lands as the hand reaches 6 o’clock, the dial reads 60 – a pulse of 60 beats a minute. A fast pulse after exercise finishes the count sooner, near 3 o’clock, where the scale reads 115–130.

About the watch factory

Slava(Russian:Cлава, meaning “Glory”) watches were classic “civil” Russian watches commonly referred to as “Slava Lava!”.

The Slava factory (known originally as the Second Moscow Watch Factory) was the second non-military watch maker established in theSoviet Union, in 1924.

The watches of this brand have always been meant for civilian consumption, without military or aerospace pretensions. As of today the factory no longer produces.
