Description

Raketa mechanical watch with date – 19 jewels
MADE IN RUSSIA, 1992

Manufactured at the Petrodvorets Watch Factory, Petrodvorets (St Petersburg).

This example has a two-tone dial: silver-white with pale-yellow pinstriped sectors forming an hourglass pattern, two black concentric tracks, black baton hands, a red central seconds hand with a red centre cap, a date window at 3 o’clock and the Ракета signature in script, with «СДЕЛАНО В РОССИИ» (“Made in Russia”) printed at the bottom. It was made in November 1992, less than a year after the Soviet Union ended, and the dial already says Russia.

The case is chrome-plated with a faceted gold-tone bezel and a plain snap-on case back numbered 469. The movement is the hand-wound Raketa calibre 2614.H with 19 jewels, central seconds, shock protection and an instant-change date.

It comes complete with its factory passport and the remains of its original blister card. The passport, issued by AO “Petrodvorets Watch Factory” in St Petersburg, is for the Raketa 2614.H. It carries the handwritten watch number 469, matching the case back, and a factory acceptance date of 23 November 1992. The date-of-sale and shop-stamp fields are blank and both warranty coupons are still attached.

Condition: new old stock (NOS). The blank passport shows it was never sold. The dial and bezel are clean in the photos, the case back has a few light storage marks, and the passport paper is creased and age-toned. Everything is as shown in the photos.

The watch is mechanical and does not need batteries to operate.

About the watch factory

The Petrodvorets Watch Factory «Raketa» was founded by Peter the Great in 1721. Factory was producing wide range of items, including jewels for watches since 1930.
Factory was devastated during World War 2, restored in 1949 and was making “Pobeda”(Victory) and “Zvezda” watches. In 1954 renamed into Petrodvorets Watch Factory.
Since 1962 “Raketa” watches are produced which became the trade mark of the factory.

The Petrodvorets Watch Factory is one of the rare watch factories in the world that fully manufactures its own movements from A to Z, including hairspring and escapement.

Other band names produced on the factory include Baltika, Leningrad, Mayak, Neva, Pobeda, Raketa, Rossiya, Svet, Start.
