Description
Soviet mechanical Slava wrist watch with day & date, 26 jewels – complete with its box, passport and the original Beryozka store receipt
MADE IN USSR!
Handsome cushion-case Slava with a green sunburst dial – bright emerald at the centre, shading to deep bottle-green at the edges – applied gold markers with black inlays, square-framed numerals at 12, 9 and 6, gold baton hands with black inlays, a thin gold seconds hand, a gilt minute track, and a framed day-date window at 3 o’clock with the weekday in red English letters.
Lovely vintage watch made by 2nd Moscow Watch factory, USSR.
The dial is signed in English – “SLAVA 26 jewels” and “MADE IN USSR” – the export version, and the day disc reads in English as well (SUN). The cushion case is gold-plated and stamped «Au10» between the lugs (a 10-micron gold layer, as the passport also states); the snap-on case back is plain stainless steel. The movement is numbered 734679, the same number that is written into the passport. The plating shows light wear consistent with its age, with fine scratches on the case and small marks at the lug tips, and the steel back has fine surface scratches – please see the photos.
The watch is mechanical and does not need batteries to operate.
Original Soviet Slava watch has mechanical lever movement and manual winding. Caliber 2428 runs on two mainspring barrels – a Slava speciality – and shows the weekday and the date side by side. The small pusher at 2 o’clock advances the date quickly.

This watch still has its paperwork from the day it was sold.
The passport from the 2nd Moscow Watch Factory (GOST 10733-73) gives the release date as August 1977 and the watch number 734679, which matches the number on the movement. It describes the 24 mm calibre 2428 on 26 jewels, with shock protection, twin mainspring barrels and an instant-change double calendar, in a dust-protected case with a 10-micron gold layer and a stainless steel back. The list price was 55 roubles. Both service coupons are stamped by the shop and dated 28.10.77.
The shop was Beryozka No. 35 in Moscow. Beryozka («Берёзка») was the Soviet chain of hard-currency stores, where goods were sold not for ordinary roubles but for Vneshposyltorg cheques, the certificates issued to Soviet citizens who earned foreign currency abroad. The receipt (No. 166674, dated 28 October 1977) is made out “in Vneshposyltorg cheques” and lists the watch by hand: “Часы «Слава» 26 рк. с 2-м календ.” (Slava watch, 26 jewels, double calendar), article 2428, 55.

About the watch factory

Slava (Russian: Слава, meaning “Glory”) watches were classic “civil” Russian watches commonly referred to as “Slava Lava!”.
The Slava factory (known originally as the Second Moscow Watch Factory) was the second non-military watch maker established in the Soviet Union, in 1924.
The watches of this brand have always been meant for civilian consumption, without military or aerospace pretensions. As of today the factory no longer produces.
