What Is the An-124 «Ruslan»?
The Antonov An-124 «Руслан» (Ruslan) is a four-engine heavy transport aircraft designed by the Antonov bureau in Kyiv. It first flew on 26 December 1982 and is the largest cargo aircraft ever built in series. Its huge hold, with a nose that swings up and a ramp at the rear, can take cargo that no ordinary freighter can carry: locomotives, power-station turbines, satellites, and aid for disaster zones.
The An-124 is also the parent of the legendary An-225 «Mriya». Antonov stretched the Ruslan, added two more engines and a twin-fin tail, and created the largest aircraft ever flown. The Mriya was destroyed at Hostomel, near Kyiv, in the first days of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022. You can read its story on our An-225 Mriya pin listing.
About This Patch
A round embroidered patch with the An-124 seen from above, in grey on a red centre. Around it, a white ring reads «ANTONOV DESIGN BUREAU» in black, with «AN-124» in red, all inside a yellow stitched border. The back has a hook-and-loop (Velcro-type) backing, so it fits the loop panels on tactical jackets, bags and caps.
Every dollar this patch raises goes to the Ukrainian army.
