Description

Soviet mechanical LUCH watch with electro-mechanical hybrid movement

MADE IN USSR!

This is quite an unusual and rare specimen.
The first batch was made in 1974. Mass production began in 1977
The main feature of an electromechanical watch is a balance motor driven by pulses synchronized by a quartz resonator. In fact, this is mechanics, on the contrary, the torque in the movement appears in balance due to electrical impulses in the coil and is transmitted to the hands. Therefore, the watch has preserved the classic “ticking” for mechanical watches

This is the first and last Soviet watch with a similar movement. This movement was not developed further due to its complexity.

Therefore, subsequently, quartz watches began to be made with the now familiar and simpler movements

Vintage mechanical watch made by “LUCH” factory, USSR.

About the watch factory

Luch / Луч

In the early-1950s, the Soviet watch industry was experiencing explosive growth and unprecedented success. In order to satisfy increasing demand domestically and abroad, on September 22, 1953, the USSR Council of Ministers ordered the creation of a watch industry in Belarus. And so began the journey of one of the most successful ancillary watch factories in the Soviet Union.

In 1953 USSR’s central government made a decision to build a women’s watches factory in Minsk.

In 1955 first batch of women watch “ZARYA” was produced and proven to be very popular.
Since 1962 men’s watches “Luch” were manufactured, in 1963 factory changes it’s name to “LUCH”

The factory was also making the watches for soviet Zhiguli «Жигули» car.
