Beautiful vintage watch manufactured on 1st Moscow Watch Factory<\/p>\n

After World War II, the\u00a0First State Watch Factory<\/a>\u00a0focused heavily on wristwatch\u00a0production. This lead to a proliferation of discrete brands in the 1950s, all powered by First Moscow Watch Factory movements. These brands included Antarktida,\u00a0Kirovskie, Kosmos, Mayak, Moskva, Orbita, Pobeda, Poljus, Rodina, Signal, Sportivnie, Sputnik, Stolichnie, Strela, Sturmanskie, and Vympel.<\/p>\n

\u200b<\/span><\/p>\n

The Signal\u00a0brand (<\/span>\u0421\u0438\u0433\u043d\u0430\u043b) was first introduced in 1959 as the first mechanical alarm watch ever produced in the USSR. The 18-jewel caliber 2612 was based on the\u00a0A. Schild caliber AS 1475. The Soviet incarnation\u00a0was a strong, reliable, and accurate movement that would continue to be produced for many decades\u00a0with only minor alterations.<\/p>\n

The most notable feature of this watch was the dual-crown setup. The top crown winds and sets the alarm;\u00a0the special\u00a0alarm hand\/sub-dial\u00a0help\u00a0adjust the alarm time to the nearest 15-minute interval. (One quirk of the caliber 2612 is that the alarm hand can only be set counter-clockwise.) The bottom crown behaves normally for\u00a0winding the mainspring and setting the current time.<\/p>\n

\u200b<\/span><\/p>\n

The Signal brand was\u00a0retired in 1964, when all individual First Moscow Watch Factory\u00a0brands were consolidated under a single trademark:\u00a0Poljot<\/a>. However, alarm watches continued to be produced for over four more decades under the Poljot name.<\/span><\/p>\n

The watch is mechanical and does not need batteries to operate.<\/p>\n
